Greetings to all! I live in China and I am an avid, yet occasional fan of Feng Shui. With DVDs being so cheap (pirated) over here, I have been on a buying lots of related genre action movies. I may post the names of the best as I watch them all. Any good movies (especially in the supernatural genre) I can look out for?

Howdy, "Love Monster," I'm in Taipei at the moment. I recommend Huang Fei Hong (the jet li ones, even the one where he goes to America and fights cowboys). The new Michelle Yeoh movie, The Touch, is okay - crap special effects but a moderately entertaining story. The lao wai's acting in it are funny as hell, though. If you can find the Outlaws of the Water Margin (Shui Hu Zhuan) tele-novel that came out a few years ago, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's wonderfully done, filmed all over China. The only drawback is that unless you read chinese subtitles some of the dialog may be indecipherable. In keeping with accuracy, the main characters speak in a wide range of Mainland dialects. There's also a relatively new re-interpretation of Hua Mu-Lan. It's sappy but entertaining too.

P.S. I don't know if you're interested in d20, but I'm slowly developing a Middle Kingdom type campaign tenatively called "Tian Xia." In the next few weeks I hope to have stuff posted on my web site for it (http://www.bombshellstudios.com/tianxia/) Right now, all I've got is a picture of my chop (it's sideways, unfortunately :)

Thanks for the feedback Chris. Hope the wedding negotiations go well for you. One Hong Kong movie series I have found that depicts the life of the HK thug is the "Young and Dangerous" (Ren zai Jianghu) movies with Zheng Yijian and Chen Xiaochun. Tells it like it is, I must say.

I have seen VCD copies of the Shuihuzhuan series, but they typically lack chinese or english subtitles, so I am holding out for DVDs.

I bought the Touch, but have yet to watch it.

Looking forward to your Tianxia material, although I do not really enjoy the D20 system. I understand you are in Taibei. Maybe you know my pain as nobody plays RPGs in China. So full of EVIL and no victims for irreverant virtual maiming. Oh the despair! However, I too am recently wed to a Chinese guniang from Zhejiang, so life is good. Living in Xiamen, Fujian. Not too far from you...

zai ci zhi jing,

In the supernatural field, well, I presume you've already seen A Chinese Ghost Story...

"Mr Vampire" is an 80s action/horror (/comedy) flick that tends to get overlooked, I think, but it's very good indeed.
