Feng Shui Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Classic abuse of Supernatural Creature's Transformation power. More specifically the ability to move Attribute bonuses around.

To quote the Jade Agenda's "Complete Supernatural Creature":

Here comes the recipe for the "Wolf in a sheep's cloth". Start with your basic Supernatural Creature character. Assign your 5 points for primary attributes to Body, your 3 to Chi and your 1 to Mind. Your Reflexes are now 5. Your maximum AV for Martial Arts is 12, but you have now only 9, so you must use your three skill bonuses to raise it to 12. You have a skill bonus of +7. Buy Transformation (some GMs will encourage you to choose a discrete human form so the group doesn't have to split when it's time to walk among normal people) and choose to alter your attributes. Assign your points in Body to Reflexes. Now, when you're in your new form, you recalculate your Martial Arts AV adding your new Reflexes to your skill bonus of +7... for an AV of 17!!! If you spend an additional Transformation schtick, you'll be able to use your other schticks in this form, and from then on you could live all the rest of your life in this human guise, avoiding the penalties for transforming. With this huge AV you may safely buy the Creature attack schticks dependent on hitting first. And what is really funny is that you may improve your original AV, not the "provisional" one! Your GM will hate this, so smile when you try to pull this trick.

What's the deal? How have people dealt with it (if it's ever come up)? Blatant attempt to hose the rules, which (supposedly) always fails in Feng Shui.

This has never come up. (Mainly, because our group doesn't play Supernatural Creatures as PCs.) But, that certainly never stops me from throwing in my two nickels' worth on a subject!

So, when this thread began I went and looked up all the pertinent information on the Transformation creature power, and here's how I'm handling it:

Nobody's gonna change their frickin' Attribute ratings just because they changed form. That's needless paperwork, and I can't see a truly good justification for it. I'm ruling out that part of the power description, and voila! I don't have to worry about the headaches that this whole attribute-switching crap might produce.

I know, I know, sounds a wee bit dictatorial, but then again, none of my rpg's are ever rampant with player power abuse. And really, even the most devious player will quickly get over the fact that they can't do something that may unbalance the game just because a rules loophole might allow it.

I find it amusing that the Transformation power, which I've never really paid attention to, allows creatures to choose a bizarre, even stupid form for their tranformed appearance! According to the text, a creature could become a blender, a Hyundai, or a puddle of antifreeze. I've suddenly got a wonderful idea for a feng shui site protected by swarms of hostile geranium bushes...

It's never come up, but I'm willing to allow it if the player in question understands that he's giving me carte blanche to screw with his character in an equally unbalanced way.

"Oh... you didn't take Damage Immunity: Sorcery, and your Willpower is 4? Interesting..."

Or, if they did, Body Borrow.
Or popcorn demons with "Blaze of Glory" x5 in tight formation.
Or Blast: Conjured Weapons/Explosives and Damage Immunity: Explosions.
Or two Extra Arms and four signature Calicos on full-auto.

Again, it has never come up in one of my games. I have allowed it to NPC Supernatural creatures as long as it did not push the Martial arts skill beyond the Creature power skill. It is not too unbalanced in my opinion because it requires giving up on the Creature power skill or buying a second transformation schtick.

I would not allow it to an abomination though as it would raise both their gun and martial arts to 15 together with creature power or arcanowave device. Let us just say that the Buro does not like its abominations to be able to pass for human.

If I wanted to forbid it entirely within the rules, I would simply observe that the Martial arts skill of a Supernatural creature maxes at 12. If the transformed creature Martial arts skill exceeds it, lower it to 12 as usual, with the side effect that the untransformed skill will be even lower. With this perfectly legal interpretation, using Wolf in Sheep's Clothing will only lower the untransformed creature Martial arts skill!

I find that screwing with a player (and only him) for his choices which were allowed by the GM to start with is unfair and frustrating to the player. so I avoid doing it.
