"[...] The character applying the slap patch makes an Arcanowave Device check; substract the Action Result from the patient's Wound Points total.[...]" (p. 122).

Do you allow your players to make an open roll or is it closed one?

Bye,

Stefan

Open. But then again, I allow open rolls on everything but fortune checks, so I'm not a good example.

Grifter
It's fun when a villain checks in at 35 on the shot clock.

I guess use whatever rules you use for other healing checks, open or closed. Closed rolls normally don't carry any chance of fumbling on something like a heal check where the difficulty is 0, even through boxcars, so I guess if you want your slap-patch users to be able to fumble let it be open.

The rules simply say make an arcanotech skill roll to use the slap patch successfully. A normal skill roll is an open roll, so I don't see a compelling reason why this should be any different. (In fact, I can think of very few times when closed rolls are needed in 'Shui.)

Just be aware that the patch description specifically says there are no negative wound points, so even if you screw up the roll, I wouldn't inflict more than the required 4 wounds points for failure.
