I'm curious as to whether there are other people who stop by these boards who's as big a fan of Dynasties & Demagogues and Crime & Punishment as I am. :) I've been working off and on - mostly "off" but a little "on" of late - on a homebrew D&D fantasy setting with a bit of an ancient-world/Arabian flavour to it, a somewhat grim setting governed by wealthy merchant princes, tyrannical despots, and haunted by dark cults, but also with a budding democratic commonwealth and other places that value freedom. The thought crossed my recently that it would be cool to try to incorporate absolutely as many of the cool societal examples in the two books as possible into the setting :) One of the pleasant surprises for me in Crime & Punishment was the exploration of different societal conditions, like post-magical-holocaust (Life Among the Ruins). If anyone's interested in at least taking a look at what I've been working on, I can send files or maybe put what I have created up on the web.
