Feng Shui Opening/closure of junctures / Ascended

Hi there

1) When do the current junctures opened and will close again? When, for example, will the 1996-juncture be closed, so that the architects can reopen the gateway in 2037 to the netherworld?

2) Are there any hints how the Ascended vom 1996 lost the secret war between 1996 and 2056? Why was Anita Dao able to re-invent magic against the chi-domination of the Ascended in 1996 to 2024?

3) I can attune to feng shui sites. But what will happen to this Attunement in the future?

Example: you attune to a site in 1850. Now, the Site still exists in 1996 and no one has de-attuned you. So you should be still attuned to the site, right? Or can you attune to a site an second oder third time, each in every juncture? I think not.

What happens, if i am attuned to the site in 1850 and in 1996 the site belongs to the architects? Two enemies attuned to the same site in different times, both getting the same benefits? I think yes.

What happens, if I could manage to deattune the architecs from this site in 1996? Could I re-attune to it? If yes, what are the bonuses? "Double" (for example 6 XPs per session instead of 3) or just "normal" bonuses (3 XPs, because it is still the same site)? I would say "just the normal bonuses".

When the junctures close is up to the Game Master. The GM can open/close any junctures she wants. (Something in the 1,000 BC era would be interesting...)

As far as site attuning, if you are attuned to a site in one juncture but someone else controls it in another juncture, I think you lose all benefits of attunement just while you're in the second juncture. (So being attuned to an 1996 site won't help you in 2056 if the Buro controls that same site in that juncture.) I don't think you can 'double' any bonuses for the same site in another juncture; if you attune to a site in 2056 that you already attuned to in 1996, you'd just get the same benefits when you are in either juncture.

But I'm tired and may be misremembering.

course... something would obviously happen in that characters future to make sure that the buro gets the site... which then means that the player needs to try and do something to make sure he controls that site..

that shouldnt set off that little nifty "its already happened in the plot, so it cant be changed" thing... will it?

Hi there

That the GM can do what he wants is nothing new ;-)

However I am interessted (as a potential GM) in the "official" dates where portals to the netherworld opened and closed.

1: That's not really how it works as I understand it. As a subjective year passes in the Netherworld, all of the junctures move forward one year so the 1996 openings will now be 1997. The 2037 juncture openings
are by "now" a 2050 juncture point. 13 years have passed in the Netherworld since the Buro discovered it. If you've been playing for a couple of subjective years (from your character's point of view) then the 2050 juncture point is now the 2052 juncture point and back in the "modern" time the British might be handing Hong Kong over, or maybe a Shift has happened that caused the British to lose Hong Kong in the 19th century and now it's Americans preparing to hand over their colonial possession to a China ruled by a Divine Emperor. During that time there have probably been several Critical shifts. There will never be a moment in which the Buro will once again discover the Netherworld for the first time, because from the point of view of the Netherworld and the innerwalkers of the Buro that has already happened.

2. Apparently the Ascended just didn't notice what was going on until
it was too late, because it looked like "science". They aren't omniscient after all.

3. I dunno.

on the first part... i just assumed that it meant years of play.... meaning if a few years of play has passed for your group, in game...

i mean sure you could go with "the junctures change, because the book was put out in 97..."

but thats no fun..lol

I don't really understand what you mean. It does mean years of play
but of course the future juncture was discovered long before play began.

well yeh... but what i got out of your post (and i could be wrong) is that regardless of how long your current game has been going, the junctures moved up anyway...

my group is currently in 97.. onces a game eyars passes, it'll be 98, and thus all junctures will move up one year..

i thought you meant something else

As to 2), the idea as I've helped to write our campaign is that there was some sort of worldwide cataclysm on the global FS scale that knocked the balance of power askew in 2010.
