Feng Shui Game at Prophets House

well just a wrap up really... everyone probably saw the part about the disgruntled postal worker/clown turned sorceror, who was raisinng legions of undead (by going town to town with a circus and killing runaways and such)..

well, anyways, the dude had a mansion a few miles outside of Boston, and as it turns out, there was pretty much nothing much they could do to stop it, so they burned down the house (a fairly moderate feng shui site)..

they were trying to stop the clown, and got the wild idea (with some prompting) to go to the 1850 juncture and try to stop him there..

they get there and find the mansion, and find that there is a sulphur mine nearby, to which the man behind the clown makeup (william everson) was gathering sulpur (i named it as an ingrediant in making zombies... doesnt have to make sense..lol)

they end up destroying the mine, but not stopping William... on their way out of the juncture, they get assaulted by two gargoyles, who hand them their butts fairly nicely, and our heroes are forced to run away.

there was always a hint (and stated at least once), that the clown (Jangles, real name William Everson) was working for (unknowingly) the architects of flesh.. the group got more results as they found out why the gargoyles were there..

they decided to do research to try and find out about the clown, his birth records say he was born in the 1950's, but according to their npc leader, hes at least 70..

turns out that William is actually from the now closed 1920 juncture, where the 4 monarchs ruled (i cant remember if it was 1850, or 1920 where they ruled, but i used 1920, because it was more fun)..

now they have to figure out how to get rid of the clown... and yours truely allowed them to walk into a year or so long campaign that will involve the PC's trying to stop the people who erased the 4 monarchs from the timeline (i think architects)

so basically, they are trying to close one juncture and open another, so they can go kill Jangles in 1920

the rough of the situation still is... well we already know that jangles makes it to the 1996 juncture...lol... so they are gonna need to capture a FS site or two in the process, to make it a more critical shift..lol

Actually, the Monarchs ruled up until 1985, according to the rulebook (I believe; don't have mine on me this second), so 1920 is a perfectly legitimate time frame for a Monarch juncture.

But, just FYI, it was the Ascended who critically shifted the Monarchs' power away, because they needed to get rid of the magic that might cause them to revert to their animal forms. It has nothing to do with your plot, but I was just thinking that if Jangles was around in 1850 or 1920, using magic of any type, perhaps your heroes could get some allies in the Ascended of the time period, who would want to get rid of Jangles as well?

The Ascended did pull the rug out from the Monarchs, but they did so from a now-closed juncture around 1400 A.D. The Critical Shift that wiped out the Monarchs and put the existing Ascended-dominated timeline in place also closed the 1400 juncture.

An interesting campaign might involve the 1400 juncture opening back up... could the Monarchs storm in and stop the Ascended before they solidify their power-base? Rennaissance Europe is gaining momentum after recovering from the Black Death (no doubt a Transformed Rat plot to weaken the Papacy's iron grip over the best Feng Shui sites), but is still fractured. Joan of Arc follows up the humiliating Agincourt. The War of the Roses follows up the 100 Years War. Mongols are invading Syria and Japan (stupid typhoons!), but lose China to the young Ming Dynasty. The Ottomans are knocking on Constantinople's door (with a 1200 lb. cannon no less). And is anybody paying attention to these nutjobs Columbus and daVinci?

Anyway, with regards to Prophet's game, it shouldn't matter when the Ascended shift happened because of Lateral Reincarnation. That is, regardless of who controls the timeline, there can easily be a Jangles in 1920 or 1850 or wherever you need him. If the Monarchs are still around, then there'd just be an awful lot more ziggurats everywhere.

heh... well i think what i subconciously ended up doing was combining several ideas (pulp juncture, architects, and monarchs)..

usually happens when i stop looking directly at the book and just play..lol

And as I'm sure we can all agree, what the world needs more of is ziggurats!

With evil clowns.

Clear and present threats are indeed terribly useful. Strangely, some of my players seem to believe that the destruction of the Empire State Building isn't such a big deal.

Odd people.

That's true. I was sort of hoping to get some resonance from September 11th. However, it seems that some of them hope to get the Pulp Ascended to stave off the destruction.

well, lately, ive had players almost cringe when i suggest any sort of desctruction on a large scale... not a good result...

its like running a game with about 6 white guys and 1 black guy (bear with me, im not being racist)... one of the groups i play with doesnt like doing anything that would remotely be misconstrued as racist... meaning rarely any "Hey Boy" lines... things like that..

in this case (of 9/11) people just prefer not to bring it up... ya know?

Whatever your group is comfortable with. It can be awkward when a player has sensitivities not shared by the rest of the group- but you just have to run with it.

On the other hand, it could be used as a real kicker to set up a villain that the players feel they want to defeat for reasons beyond plot advancement.

Remember- if anyone in your group is afraid of spiders you have to introduce an entire session based around archnids, culminating in a huge fight where some vulnerable PC is wrapped in webbing with only one arm free to defend themself.
