it is hard to make a character without educated virtue, because starting skills eat so much from apprenticeship.

It's kind of sad.

You could also take veteran or any other virtue that grants the 30 XP during character creation.

Or you could just readjust your perception of what a beginning magus can do.

Veteran is nice but does not give more points in arts.
(there is a practical minimum your latin score can go, its better to learn it before hermetic training so you get more arts.)

Any of the virtues (such as Educated and Warrior) that give extra XP, translates directly into Arts, in that you won't have to spend your regular XP to cover those. Now there are no required Warrior skills, so it might not matter as much, unless your concept involves martial training. But Educated, the 50 points right there can buy your required Latin score for example, leaving 50 more points for Arts.

Having educated does however mean that the character was educated before becoming an apprentice, and that means this has to be justified... Personally I prefer taking skilled parens (giving 30 xp to arts & 30 ekstra spell levels).

Arcane training is even better, get magic theory at rank 4! (or 50p to other mystical skills)

Plus you can get finesse, penetration and parama magica before hermetic training!

8)

Whow I missed that Skilled parens, (60 xp, 30 lvl's of spells).

That's even better than arcane training.

Now my basic package includes educated and skilled parens.
