If you cast a spell of 'rise of feathery body' with duration of sun, do you have to use perdo vim spell to cancel it?

(nasty spell versus unliked enemies)

-so can you cancel your own spells?

That decision is made by the spell's inventor in the laboratory. The two are equivalent, so yes, either could be used.

Nope. If their Duration is longer than Concentration, they last till the Duration expires, or get dispelled.

As to what happens when a spell expires, that's not specified. If a long-Duration Rise of the Feathery Body spell wore off, would the target plunge to his death? Maybe. Or maybe the spell would fade out so he sinks quickly but safely to the ground. It's up to the troupe or storyguide. I would go with the latter option because I don't want wise-ass players abusing low-level spells to kill people in my game -and I don't want PC's who make a mistake in timing to get killed while they are trying to fly around the countryside. Your mileage may vary.

Always by concentrating, *if* you got yourself the Minor Hermetic Virtue 'Harnessed Magic'.
Otherwise it depends - unless the spell is D:Concentration, D:Ring or T:Circle, of course. See ArM5 p.132 for self-transformation spells: if cast with foci on yourself, you can change back by concentrating, ending the spell.
Most of the time you cannot dispel your own spells just by concentrating, though, and have to resort to PeVi or such.

Kind regards,

Berengar

You could borrow a bit from the magic item lab rules, and design a spell that 1) has a duration of concentration, and 2) The spell maintains concentration (effectively, sun duration). To affect any change, you'd have to concentrate a bit, and lo! Your spell has ended. Of course, this would make most spells that would use this a magnitude higher than if you had "Harnessed Magic", but hey, that's the price you pay... :)

How this would work for spells with a duration longer than Sun, though, is beyond me at the moment...

Is casting a standard formulaic (or spontaneous) spell allowed in the same round as a quick cast (defensive) spell? The rules are a little vague on this point.

YES.

FAst casting is meant for defense that hits you before your initiative.

Plus you can cast multiple fast casting spells.
nice.

does anyone have any handy 5th edition spells for Elemental magic?

(virtue that lets you add requisite elements without lowering form score.)

Rain of Oil for auram sounds useful - turn the whole rain into rain of flammable oil, lvl 20. (variant of rain of stones.)

Any better???

Any spell that turns one element into another, stone into air or water fx (make instant cave), or air into dirt (make that a large area, and you can pretty much neutralize a bunch of people) are exelent spells for an elementalist.

Thank you Atlas games for finally writing Auram the way it was supposed to be written.

It got me furious to see that in 4th edition it was easier to do small weather effects than large, polar opposite to 5th and 3rd editions. I call that brain fart if you do not mind.

Now finally it's logical. Lightning from your hand is not easier than lightning from the sky, where they naturally came from.
