In the original research section of the true lineages book, when you attempt to stabilize a discovery, you potentially gain warping points based upon the formula (magnitude of discovery stabilized - simple die).

If you have a familiar and cord strength that knocks off a number of botch dice when you botch, does this cord strength apply here? There is no mention of this in the original research section, but it seems to me that this may apply since these cord strengths help in some way with not gaining warping points, albiet it is through the route of lessening the number of botch dice.

I think that it's pretty clear that the author did not intend for this to be the case (perhaps because he did not consider it). Cautious sorcerer (which has similar mechanical effects) does not influence original research.

If you see the warping from experimentation in the same light as spell botches this would be a fine alteration of the rules. If you see the experimentation warping as akin to being underneith a long term magical effect then a gold cord bonus is not waranted.

Giving a gold cord bonus would mean that older magi who take the time to ward themselves against experimental warping with a powerful golden cord could whip out magnetude five and six research spells with impunity. This may or may not suit your saga.

I think that the gold cord is the most powerful of the three as it is. The gold cord already helps research by reeducing the botch chance. I would not choose to allow the gold cord to lower the effects of experimentation warping in my saga.
