quote]The Tremere were a group of Vampires, probably a Bloodline, that trafficked with Abyssal monsters in exchange for knowledge. Eventually they learned how to steal souls while they drained blood and how to use those souls to gain back some elements of humanity. They could come outside at dusk, be nourished by food, etcetera. But human souls were weak and could only support them for a few days. They wanted more, and they knew enough to know that Awakened souls were stronger medicine. They lured some mages to them with secrets and promises of more secrets, and then they fed on them. And were immediately burned to ashes by the power of their victims' souls. The victims, though, had lost part of their souls in the process, and they could feel the rest ebbing away. They had to replace what they were losing, and the knowledge that the vampires had given them showed them the way. They learned how to steal the souls of others with relative ease and attach them to themselves. They learned how to use those souls to defer aging in themselves. And they learned how to steal and use an Awakened soul. They called themselves the Tremere-infected. Over time, that was shortened to simply Tremere, and the word Lich got picked up somewhere, probably in fairly recent times. Now they're a tightly knit Left-handed Legacy which recruits Mages by the promise of immortality in exchange for giving their soul to their teacher.{/quote] from this thread (i dont have the book yet) : http://forums.white-wolf.com/viewtopic.php?t=22267&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30
