InFUNity Tiles is an Origins Award Finalist!
InFUNity Tiles is a Finalist for this year's prestigious Origins Special Recognition Award for Sustainable Production!
The award celebrates games that demonstrate environmentally sensitive production practices, and make significant strides toward sustainable manufacturing. Finalists like InFUNity TIles have actively reduced their environmental impact, and pushed the boundaries in design, manufacturing, and distribution processes to minimize their eco-footprint. The award is presented by the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) in partnership with the Green Games Guide. The winner will be announced at the Origins Game Fair in June.
InFUNity Tiles stands out for its commitment to sustainability. The tiles themselves are made in the USA from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic waste, like discarded kiddie pools and sleds, which we divert ourselves from our regional landfill on the shore of Lake Superior. Then, instead of relying on virgin plastic and overseas manufacturing, we shred the collected plastic at our Replay Workshop and then have it injection molded locally into tiles, significantly reducing transportation emissions. In its first print run, InFUNity Tiles recycled an impressive 5,000 pounds of plastic waste
InFUNity Tiles' packaging continues its environmental push, using only a small paper header card and a 25% post-consumer recycled bag, rather than a bulky box. After all, reducing material use is the most impactful first step, and reducing shipping weight means greater environmental efficiency. The zip closure encourages reuse by consumers, as well.

"We're incredibly honored that InFUNity Tiles has been recognized as a Finalist for this important award," says president John Nephew. "At Atlas Games, we believe it's our
responsibility to implement more sustainable practices in game manufacturing. InFUNity Tiles is a testament to that commitment, and we're particularly proud of our unique approach to using local plastic waste."
We've also amplified our sustainability efforts by launching a Sprues Recycling Program. We partner with friendly local game stores to collect the waste plastic sprues from miniatures, which we then grind up and use to produce other game accessories in our Replay Workshop line. This creates a true circular lifecycle for plastic within the hobby games industry!
We hope our efforts with InFUNity Tiles, Replay Workshop, and our Sprues Recycling Program will inspire others in our industry to consider innovative solutions for reducing their environmental impact.
InFUNity Tiles producer Michelle Nephew notes, "To our knowledge, no other publisher is actually shredding and using local plastic waste to manufacture games, making this award's recognition even more meaningful."
