To celebrate the release of Magical Kitties Save the Day under an open license, I also took a moment to reflect on why it matters so much. After all, I'm one of the Rulebook co-authors, and its publisher too!

Magical Kitties just released under an open license. Why do you think this is important for the game and the fan community?
"Magical Kitties is SO MUCH about the community. It's kids playing with their adults and other kids, and everyone learning from the experience. It only makes sense to let those kids help expand the larger RPG itself, along with their own campaigns."
Are you considering releasing your own Magical Kitties content under the open license? Tell us about them.
"I'd love to do crossovers with our other Open License RPGs, to create new hometowns with saber-toothed magical kitties in Planegea, and magical kitties in Ars Magica's Mythic Europe who are wizard familiars. I also have an idea for an adventure featuring space whales (my favorite creature from the Rulebook), that I just couldn't make fit into Trouble in River City, but it's still sitting in my brain."
What are some things you'd like to see Magical Kitties fans create under the open license?
"More hometowns, definitely! I feel like we've only just scratched the surface of where magical kitties can be found. Help us find new homes for them all!"
What's your favorite thing about Magical Kitties Save the Day?
"It's watching a tween who's "too young" to even play some other RPGs, actually GMing a Magical Kitties session for their family and friends. That was the greatest thing for my own kids to be able to experience at a young age, thanks to Magical Kitties. I didn't start GMing myself until after college, and it was such a HUGE intimidating hurdle for me. My kids will never face that."
Anything else you'd like to mention?
"Have you noticed a trend? John and I have now released FOUR of our RPGs under open licenses: Magical Kitties, Ars Magica, Planegea 5E, and Over the Edge. You've supported us for decades, and we both feel that it's the right time for us to give back to our fan community. I can't wait to see where you take us!"
